The Art of Building A Badass Team

Building a company is hard—very hard. Often, I find that teams get so focused on deliverables, sales, and metrics that pausing to spend time together seems wasteful—a waste of time and money. I am here to tell you it is the absolute opposite. If your team is swamped, working overtime, stressed, and at its max, the solution is to TAKE A BREAK. Breathe. Pause. Spend a day getting to know each other. Laugh. Bond. Have fun!

If you are married and have had counseling, your therapist likely shared that “date nights” are vital to a healthy marriage. The same is valid with teams. Spending time together that does not include responding to emails, slack messages, and planning the next PowerPoint presentation is vital to the health of your organization. So, my Customer Experience Team at Aetos Imaging spent a day on Friday doing just that. We went white water rafting. We carpooled together. We battled the river together. We laughed together. We ate lunch at the Apricot Place Cafe and talked about the first few chapters of “Make Your Brand Legendary” by Scott Wozniak, the book we are building our customer experience brand on. We then researched the Buc-ee’s location closest to us since Scott shared their customer experience model.

At one point, I heard a team member say, “Boy, I needed this day…” You see – your team needs this to be their best. So, if your team is overbooked, overworked, and at the point of burnout, it is time to check out for the day and do something fun. If that something fun is an adventure outdoors – even better. #BeBraveBeBadass.
