Church African Style

Category: Real Life, Outreach

This morning we went to Daniel’s church in Mozambique (Daniel works for WHI and is our translator). We drove up and I was reminded of my last church service in Sinazgonwe, Zambia…loud singing and praising God, people filing in, handshakes and greetings, and a special seat upfront.

Music speaks to my heart and even though I have no idea what they were singing it was glorious. Music, smiles, and handshakes seem to be universal signs which do not require translation.

My favorite part of the service was the tithes. 2 Cor 9:7 says “Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver”. Our friends here have mastered cheerful giving as they fill the basket over and over in song, praise, dancing, and pure thankfulness. What a joyous reminder of how God intended this act of worship to be…an act of praise, joyful, and a true blessing to the giver. Praise God!
